Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Monday arrested Sanoj Kumar Mishra, former secretary of Tusura Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society (PACS) Ltd under Gudvela block in Balangir district, in connection with alleged financial irregularities and fraudulent accounting during the Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2014-15.
Mishra was arrested following an investigation into the alleged diversion of paddy procured from farmers using government funds. He was subsequently forwarded to the court of the Special Judge, Vigilance, Balangir, the agency said in an official statement.
According to the Vigilance, Mishra, who was the secretary of Tusura PACS during KMS 2014-15, was responsible for procuring paddy from local farmers and ensuring its timely dispatch to designated rice millers for custom milling.
The investigation allegedly found that a substantial quantity of procured paddy was neither delivered to the tagged rice millers nor properly accounted for in the society’s stock records. The physical non-delivery of paddy and alleged fraudulent accounting resulted in the diversion of funds and caused a financial loss of Rs 42,31,608 to the society, the agency said.
In connection with the case, Sambalpur Vigilance Police Station registered Case No. 12 dated August 16, 2026, under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(c) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 409 of the IPC against Mishra.
Further investigation into the case is underway, the Vigilance said.
