Bhubaneswar: Lalbag police on Friday arrested four persons in connection with a robbery from a gold merchant in Ganesh Ghat area of Cuttack.
Among the four arrested individuals, two have been identified as robbers and two others are who have purchased the stolen gold. Police have recovered 60 grams of gold ornaments, Rs 9,100 in cash, and an iron rod from the possession of the accused, said sources.
The accused have been identified as Uday Samal and Asit Nayak while two receivers have been identified as Basudev Maharana and Lakhmidhar Maharana. Three of the accused have a previous criminal record. All will be forwarded to court today, as per the sources.
It is pertinent to mention that the robbery took place on August 20 when the gold merchant was on his way home.
Additional DCP Anil Mishra said, “The gold merchant Dip Narayan Majhi was returning home after polishing the gold ornaments at Balu Bazaar when miscreants injured Majhi’s legs with the help of an iron rod before decamping with the bag containing ornaments. Lalbag police have registered a case in this connection. Uday was the principal accused. Uday hit the merchant’s legs with the iron rod and fled with Asit. Police seized the bike used in the robbery apart from mobile phones and gold ornaments.”
