Bhubaneswar: Rourkela police on Tuesday recovered the body of a Class IX student, who was allegedly beaten to death allegedly by three friends, near Sarana Chhak in Rourkela.
The deceased has been identified as Rudra Narayan Padhi (15), a resident of Nua Basti in the Balughat area of the Steel City. Rudra was a student of Developed Area High School in Civil Township in Rourkela.
According to reports, his friends had asked Rudra for some money a couple of days back but he expressed his inability to help them. Soon after this, his friends asked Rudra to meet them at Udit Nagar on Monday. As he reached the spot, his friends began thrashing him with a stick and smashed his head with a stone. Subsequently, they dumped Rudra’s body near Sarana Chhak.
As Rudra did not return home late into Monday night, his parents lodged a missing complaint with Raghunathpali police. On Tuesday morning, some local residents spotted Rudra’s body and informed his parents.
On being informed, police reached the spot, recovered the body, and sent it for post-mortem. Two accused have been detained by the police for interrogation while the third is said to be absconding.
