Bhubaneswar: After unseasonal rains last week, intense winter chill and dense fog have disrupted normal life in several parts of Odisha during the last two days. While the state experienced a sudden drop in night/minimum temperature since Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that the mercury will decline further during the weekend.
The mercury dropped below 10°C in at least 8 places in the state on Thursday night and G Udayagiri was the coldest place in Odisha recording 4.8°C, a drop from 6°C on the previous night. The weather office has issued a yellow warning for severe cold in Kandhamal, Angul and Dhenkanal.
At the same time, thick fog at many places has reduced visibility to less than 50 meters disrupting vehicular movements. The IMD has issued an alert for shallow to dense fog in Khurdha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh and Jajpur on Saturday.
