Kataka: Mahanga Police Station Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Jugal Kishore Das was assaulted and injured by a group of youths during Ganesh idol immersion late last night.
According to reports, the incident took place at Bardia village under Mahanga police limits. The IIC had gone to the spot to monitor the immersion procession which was continuing beyond the permitted time late into the night. When he asked the Ganesh Puja Committee members to conclude the immersion within the stipulated time, tension erupted. The youths allegedly lost their temper and attacked the IIC with bricks and stones.
IIC Das sustained head injuries after being hit by a brick and his head was reportedly cracked open. The police vehicle was also completely damaged in the stone pelting.
Mahanga police have started an investigation into the incident and efforts are on to identify the accused.
