Bhubaneswar: The Balangir Excise Department busted a ganja smuggling racket and seized 12 quintals of ganja worth an estimated Rs 12 crore on the Tusura-Balangir road.Four persons were arrested during the raid.
According to Excise officials, the ganja mafia was smuggling ganja to Delhi in the guise of cloth trading. The raid was conducted at the Dangpathar intersection on the Tusura-Deogaon road.
Two pickup vehicles loaded with cloth bundles were intercepted for questioning.
During inspection, officials found bundles of ganja hidden inside the cloth consignments. The arrested persons have been identified as four youths from Rajasthan.
They were allegedly transporting the contraband from Baliguda in Kandhamal district to Delhi via Raipur.
Excise officials said the ganja was being moved in pickup trucks covered with cloth to avoid detection. The seized ganja and vehicles have been taken into custody.
Further investigation is underway to trace the network and the source of the consignment.
