Digapahandi (Ganjam): A 26-year-old woman from Ganjam district has alleged that she was repeatedly raped by a mason who blackmailed her by threatening to circulate her intimate photographs and videos on social media. Police have arrested the accused and sent him to judicial custody.
The accused has been identified as Shankar Naik, alias Saheb, a mason from Chintakhali village under Sanakhemundi block in Ganjam district.
According to police, the woman, a resident of a village under Digapahandi block, alleged that the accused had secretly captured her intimate photographs and videos on his mobile phone without her knowledge. He allegedly stored the content and used it to repeatedly threaten and coerce her into sexual relations.
The complainant further alleged that Shankar contacted her from different mobile numbers and warned that he would make the photos and videos viral on social media if she refused to comply with his demands.
Following the woman’s complaint, Digapahandi police registered a case and launched an investigation. The accused was subsequently arrested and produced before a court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
Police said further investigation into the case is underway.
