Puri: A first-year Commerce student was found hanging inside her room at the hostel of Puri Government Women’s College, police said on Thursday.
The deceased, identified as Nandini, was a native of the Kashipur area of Rayagada district and was staying in room number 222 of the college hostel.
According to reports, the student had not come out of her room from morning till evening. Her classmates called out to her but received no response, following which the hostel warden was informed. The warden subsequently alerted the Sea Beach police.
Police reached the hostel and, in the presence of a magistrate, broke open the door of the room and found the student hanging inside.
She was taken to the Puri District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
The family members of the deceased have been informed and are expected to arrive in Puri on Friday. The body is to be handed over to them after the necessary procedures.
Police have registered an unnatural death case at Sea Beach police station and sent the body to the district headquarters hospital for post-mortem examination. Further investigation is underway.
