Bhubaneswar: A female student sustained severe injuries after allegedly falling from the rooftop of a college hostel in Nayagarh district on Saturday.
The student, identified as a second-year Plus II student at Prajamandal Mahila Degree Mahavidyalaya.
According to reports, early in the morning during regular tuition hours at the college hostel, a student allegedly jumped from the roof of the building.
Upon hearing the commotion, fellow students and teachers rushed to the scene and immediately transported her to Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in critical condition. Medical staff confirmed that she sustained severe injuries to her legs and face.
“The injuries suggest she may have fallen from a significant height. There are marks on her hand, and her right leg appears fractured. We have not yet conducted an X-ray, but if the fracture is severe, she may be transferred to a hospital in Bhubaneswar,” a doctor at the hospital said.
The Nayagarh police have launched an investigation into the incident, which is being treated as a potential suicide attempt. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
