Bhubaneswar: Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati on Monday called upon citizens to adopt electric vehicles (EVs) and rooftop solar systems to help reduce pollution, conserve resources, and create a cleaner future. He was addressing the 42nd Foundation Day of the Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) in Bhubaneswar.
Highlighting the urgency of collective action for environmental protection, the Governor noted that the Raj Bhavan has already transitioned its official fleet to electric vehicles, thereby cutting its carbon footprint and setting an example for others to emulate.
He also encouraged households to install rooftop solar panels, underscoring their dual benefits of lowering electricity bills and promoting renewable energy, while also allowing citizens to take advantage of subsidies under government schemes.
Reflecting on OSPCB’s four-decade journey, Dr. Kambhampati lauded the Board for balancing industrial development with ecological responsibility. “This day is not merely a milestone but a celebration of the Board’s holistic and progressive approach to safeguarding Odisha’s environment,” he remarked.
The Governor urged citizens, especially students, to take part in the state government’s massive plantation drive on September 17, which aims to plant 75 lakh saplings across Odisha. He said the initiative would expand green cover, improve air quality, and help mitigate climate change.
He further praised the OSPCB’s initiatives on air quality improvement, river restoration, and real-time monitoring of industries and water bodies, while commending the state government’s push for EV adoption, e-buses, subsidies, and the PM Surya Ghar Yojana for rooftop solar.
