Bhubaneswar: As many as 3,738 Bangladeshi nationals have been identified across the state, with their deportation under consideration, informed Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi in the State Assembly on Monday.

Majhi’s reply came in response to a query raised by BJP MLA Manas Kumar Dutta, who wanted to know what steps the Odisha government has taken to identify Bangladeshi infiltrators living illegally in Odisha and deport them.

In response to Dutta’s question, CM replied that the Odisha government has identified 3,738 Bangladeshi nationals living in the state, with the highest concentrations found in four districts: Kendrapara (1,649), Jagatsinghpur (1,112), Malkangiri (655), and Nabarangapur (106).

In his reply, the Chief Minister also informed the House that in the last 10 years, 41 Bangladeshi nationals were found to be involved in various criminal cases in Odisha. All district Collectors and Superintendents of Police (SPs) have been directed to identify Bangladeshi infiltrators in their respective jurisdictions.
