Balangir: A government school teacher suffered severe injuries after being attacked by a swarm of bees while returning from census duty in Balangir district on Monday.
The injured teacher, identified as Dolomani Hans, teaches at Sareibahal Upper Primary School under the Tankapani cluster in Khaprakhol block.
According to reports, he was walking back from Goelmunda village when a large swarm of bees suddenly descended on him. Hans sustained multiple stings and collapsed on the roadside in a critical condition. Local residents who noticed him lying unconscious quickly came to his rescue and rushed him to the Nuapada District Headquarters Hospital for immediate medical attention.
It is pertinent to mention that this is the second such incident involving teachers engaged in census-related work in western Odisha in recent days. On Saturday, another teacher was injured after being attacked by a pet dog while performing census duties in the Dengibhadi area of Sundargarh town.
The back-to-back incidents have sparked concern over the safety of government employees, particularly teachers, who are often deployed for door-to-door enumeration and other field assignments in rural and forested areas.
