Bhubaneswar: A 35-year-old dance teacher of a government-run school has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting an 11-year-old Dalit girl and threatening to kill her if she revealed the incident.
The crime allegedly occurred on September 15 during Nuakhai celebrations, when the Class 5 student had gone to perform at a cultural event in Kendrapada district. According to Nikirai police, the teacher took the minor aside and molested her before warning her of dire consequences if she told anyone.
Traumatised, the girl remained silent for nearly two weeks before confiding in her parents. Her mother then approached police and filed a formal complaint. Acting on the complaint, police arrested the accused. During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to the offence.
A case has been registered against him under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Further investigation is underway
