Bhubaneswar: A man was arrested for allegedly murdering his wife and attempting to stage the crime as a suicide in Kendrapada district on Wednesday.
The accused, Dharmendra Rout of Garjanapur village under Rajnagar police station limits, has been charged with killing his 34-year-old wife, Sujata Rout. According to police, the victim’s father, Haldhar Pradhan of Goshigaon village, lodged an FIR on Wednesday.
He alleged that his daughter had faced continuous harassment and torture from her husband over dowry demands since their marriage in 2017.Pradhan further claimed that Dharmendra murdered Sujata on Wednesday morning and then hanged her body from a ceiling fan to make it appear as suicide.
Multiple injury marks on the body raised strong suspicion of foul play, the complainant stated.
The accused was produced before the Rajnagar court on Wednesday. The court rejected his bail plea and remanded him to judicial custody. Further investigation into the case is underway.
