Baripada: A 42-year-old man choked to death while gulping four gulgulas (Indian fried doughnut) and a malpua (a traditional Indian pancake) at one go as part of a challenge at an eatery in the weekly bazar in Dantiamuhan village under Betanoti police limits in Mayurbhanj district.
According to reports, 42-year-old Sirish Chandra Mahanayak of Dantiamuhan village had gone to the weekly bazar in his village.
There at a refreshment shop Sirish took the challenge to gulp four gulgulas and a malpua in one attempt.
However, the attempt proved fatal for Sirish. He choked and gasped for breath as the sweetmeat stuck in his throat.He was offered water by the bystanders but it failed to ease his condition.
He was rushed to PRM Medical College & Hospital. However, he was declared dead by the doctors at the hospital.
On being informed by Sirish’s family members police on Monday registered an unnatural death case and have got an autopsy of the body done.
