Bhubaneswar: Former MLA Pravat Ranjan Biswal, accused in the chit fund scam case, received another setback today after the Orissa High Court dismissed his petition seeking quashing of the case filed against him by the CBI.
The High Court, however, directed the Special CBI Court to complete the trial of the case within six months, instructing it to expedite proceedings and avoid unnecessary delays or repeated adjournments.
Biswal had earlier approached the High Court in the same matter. At that time, the Court had directed the CBI Court to complete the trial within one year. More than two years have passed since that deadline, but the trial remains pending.
In his fresh petition, Biswal argued that the trial has not been completed for a long time and claimed there is no concrete evidence against him, or that the investigating agency is unable to prove the allegations. He prayed for the original pending case to be quashed.
The High Court did not accept his argument. Refusing to dismiss the case, it directed the CBI Special Court to conclude the trial within six months.
