Bhubaneswar: As the severe heatwave continues to grip Odisha, five towns in the state have recorded temperatures of 45 degrees Celsius or above, with Jharsuguda once again emerging as the hottest place in the state at 45.2 degrees Celsius on Saturday.

Sambalpur, Hirakud, Titlagarh, and Boudh also touched the 45-degree mark, while Sonepur recorded 44.7 degrees Celsius, followed by Bolangir and Bhawanipatna at 44.5 degrees Celsius each.

Nuapada registered 43.5 degrees Celsius, Bargarh 42.8 degrees Celsius, and Sundargarh 42.2 degrees Celsius.

The persistent high temperatures have raised concerns among residents and authorities, with no immediate relief expected from the scorching conditions in the coming days.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange alert for heatwave in three districts- Bolangir, Sambalpur and Jharsuguda   on May 24.
