Bhubaneswar: A well-marked low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha’s coast continues to persist, prompting the India Meteorological Department to issue warnings for heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts.
The districts of Koraput and Malkangiri are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph. Other districts, including Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, and Nayagarh, are expected to experience heavy rain and thunderstorms with lightning.
The low-pressure area is expected to move slowly west-northwestwards across Odisha in the next 24 hours, bringing heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. On August 28, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Nuapada, and Bargarh districts are likely to experience heavy rainfall.
The IMD has warned of gusty surface winds and lightning, and the situation will be closely monitored. Fishermen have been advised to exercise caution due to rough sea conditions.
