Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted increased rainfall across Odisha during the Rath Yatra period. A fresh low-pressure system is likely to develop over the Bay of Bengal, which is expected to bring widespread rain to the state in the coming days.
According to the extended weather outlook, a cyclonic circulation may form over the Bay of Bengal around July 13 or 14. This system is likely to intensify into a low-pressure area by July 17 over the northwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining coasts of Odisha and West Bengal. Under its influence, the state is expected to experience enhanced rainfall activity.
Scattered rainfall is likely over different parts of Odisha from July 9 to 15. Some districts may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall on July 13 and 14, while light to moderate rain is expected in northern Odisha on July 10, 11, and 12.On July 10, rainfall is likely in Balasore, Bhadrak, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, and Boudh districts.
On July 11, rain is expected in Balasore, Bhadrak, Sundargarh, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj. In the past 24 hours, light rainfall was recorded at Baripada, Paradip, and Kendrapara.
The IMD has also noted that while July rainfall across the country may remain below normal, Kerala and parts of East Central India are likely to receive above-normal rainfall.
