Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued red, orange, and yellow warnings across several districts of Odisha, forecasting intense rainfall activity, thunderstorms, and gusty winds over the next 24 hours.
According to the IMD’s midday bulletin, a Red Warning—indicating the likelihood of extremely heavy rainfall—has been issued for Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts on June 19. These regions are expected to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated spells of extremely heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 30–40 km/h.
An Orange Warning—signaling likely very heavy rainfall—has been issued for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, and Balasore districts during the same period.
Simultaneously, a Yellow Warning has been sounded for Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, and Bhadrak, where heavy rainfall and thunderstorms with gusty winds are expected.
Other districts, including Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri, are also likely to experience thunderstorms with lightning and surface winds ranging between 30–40 km/h on June 19.
Looking ahead, the IMD has placed parts of interior and western Odisha under a Yellow Warning from June 20 to 25, with forecasts of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sonepur, Deogarh, Angul, and Mayurbhanj.
