Bhubaneswar: Security personnel at the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri have foiled an attempt to record a video inside the temple premises using a hidden camera fitted in a devotee’s spectacles. Arup Ray from West Bengal was caught by the Jagannath Temple Police at 12th century shrine while wearing the spectacles with a hidden camera.
Puri SP Prateek Singh said, Ray was examined by the temple police and the camera was detected. The police have seized his mobile phone for further verification and registered a case against him under the Shree Jagannath Temple Act. The device will be sent to the State Forensic Laboratory in Bhubaneswar for technical analysis.
“Arup Ray from Kolkata came to Puri with his family. He was using spectacles fitted with a hidden camera. He was examined at the gate by the Jagannath Temple Police (JTP) and they found the spectacles with the camera. The police later verified that the spectacles had been fitted with a recording device. The spectacles are being verified and his mobile phone has been seized,” the SP said.
The incident came to light when JTP Harihar Pratihari spotted the suspicious spectacles and raised an alarm. Ray has been detained at the Singh Dwar police station, and further investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the attempt to record a video inside the temple.
