Khurda: A homeguard was caught red-handed while smuggling liquor and firecrackers from the Begunia police station in Odisha’s Khurdha district on Saturday. These firecrackers and liquor were seized by the police from different places in the district.
Begunia police seized a huge quantity of firecrackers from Kantabada village during a raid on Saturday. Police seized illegal liquor from a vehicle after it was involved in a series of accidents near the Mini Stadium yesterday. All the seized items were stored in Begunia police station.
Later in the day, local villagers intercepted a Maruti car trying to leave the police station secretly. The vehicle was allegedly transporting the seized liquor and firecrackers from the police station. The locals detained a homeguard who allegedly smuggling of seized items.
As chaos ensued, the village Sarpanch informed the Khorda SDPO about the incident. Soon, the SDPO reached the spot and seized the vehicle.
Three people, including the homeguard and driver of the care, have been arrested under Sections 79/411/34 of IPC, 52(a) Odisha Excise Act 9(b) and Explosives Act. They will be produced before a court on Sunday.
