Bhubaneswar: With the mercury soaring higher with each passing day, Odisha is already experiencing the intense heat of summer in mid-March. According to the regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the day temperature is likely to touch 40°C at several places in the state in the next few days. Malkangiri district in Odisha is already grappling with the highest maximum temperature.
The intense heat has made it unbearable for people in various districts in Odisha to venture outdoors between 11.00 am and 3.30 pm.
The day temperature in 19 cities of Odisha recorded maximum temperatures of 36°C and above on Tuesday. These cities even include Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. On Tuesday, Bhubaneswar experienced a maximum temperature of 37°C, while the mercury touched 36°C in Cuttack.
According to the weather office, while the day temperature is likely to increase by 4°C to 6°C in most parts of the state in the next three to four days, the minimum temperatures (night temperature) are likely to rise by 2°C to 4°C during the next three days.
Taking to their official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre informed that the minimum temperature (night temperature) is likely to rise by 2°C to 4°C in the capital city during the next three days.
The Meteorological Centre said that the southern and western parts of Odisha including Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Bolangir, Bhawanipatna, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, and adjoining areas are likely to see a surge in temperature.
Meanwhile, the MeT has predicted that there light to moderate rainfall in north interior Odisha under the influence of western disturbances.
Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Angul, and Dhenkanal districts are likely to experience light to moderate rain/thundershowers today. More areas are like to receive rain by Saturday as the IMD has issued Kal Baisakhi warning in coastal and north interior Odisha. On Monday and Tuesday, there may be heavy rain and hail at some places.
