Bhubaneswar: Hundreds of sanctioned teaching and non-teaching posts are lying vacant in government, fully aided and block-grant-aided schools across Odisha, with the state government initiating steps to fill several of the vacancies, School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond informed the assembly on Friday.
In a written reply to a question by Jatani MLA Bibhuti Bhushan Balabantaray, Gond provided details of vacant posts in higher secondary schools, high schools and secondary training schools across the state.
In government and government-upgraded higher secondary schools, 358 of the 1,734 sanctioned teacher posts are currently vacant.
The recruitment process to fill these vacancies through the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) is underway, the minister said.
The government is also in the process of creating 1,342 teacher posts in 193 government-upgraded higher secondary schools, he said.
There are 230 government vocational higher secondary schools functioning under the Directorate of Higher Secondary Education, Odisha.
According to the details provided by the minister, 70 junior lecturer posts, 116 senior clerk posts, 143 junior clerk posts and 168 peon posts are lying vacant in these schools.
In the 26 fully aided private higher secondary schools in the state, vacancies exist against sanctioned teaching posts, while the process of filling them through the State Selection Board is underway.
There are also 499 block-grant-aided higher secondary schools under the 662 category in the state. Of the 3,116 sanctioned lecturer posts in these institutions, 302 are vacant.
To ensure that students’ education is not disrupted, guest lecturers have been engaged in these schools, the minister said.
Necessary steps are being taken to fill vacant posts in government high schools, while the process of filling 1,652 teacher posts in fully aided high schools is underway, Gond said.
