Husband Gets 10-Year Jail, In-Laws 7 Years Each in Dowry Death Case

Bhubaneswar: In a dowry death case from Kandhamal district, a court has sentenced a husband to 10 years in jail and his mother and two sisters to 7 years each.

The verdict was delivered by the Phulbani court in the death of Mira Behera from Gumagarh, Kandhamal.

Mira was allegedly tortured by her in-laws for dowry and died under suspicious circumstances in 2015.Following a complaint by her family, police arrested husband Vijay Behera, his mother, and two sisters. They were tried in court.

After nearly 11 years, the court held all four guilty and awarded harsh punishment: 10 years imprisonment for the husband and 7 years each for the mother-in-law and two sisters-in-law.
