Dhenkanal: An engineering student went missing in Brahmani river at Saranga under Parjang police station in Dhenkanal district on Thursday afternoon.
The student, identified as Sanat Kumar Mahalik, is a final year BTech student at Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology (IGIT), Sarang. He is a resident of Balasore.
The incident took place when he went to take a bath in the Brahmani river that passed behind the college.
Sanat slipped into the deep water due to carelessness while swimming.
On receiving the information, the Parjang fire brigade reached the spot and launched an operation to trace him.
The search operation is underway.
