Bhubaneswar: Two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed between the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Sambalpur, and the World Skills Centre to provide training to women in various fields, empowering them to become self-sufficient.

The agreements were signed in the presence of Odisha’s Chief Minister, Mohan Charan Majhi, during a special session on women titled ‘Subhadraru Mudra’ at the Utkarsh Odisha: Make in Odisha Conclave.

Chief Minister Majhi stated, “We have initiated a world-changing initiative today to make Odisha a land of opportunity for women. Women are starting small businesses utilizing the assistance provided under the Subhadra Yojana. Considering today’s business needs, we have started an initiative to develop women’s skills and teach them how to conduct business in a modern system. The World Skills Center and IIM, Sambalpur, have extended their support for this endeavor.”

According to Chief Minister Majhi, over 1.7 crore eligible beneficiaries have registered under the Subhadra Yojana, with more than 80 lakh women receiving the first installment. Deputy Chief Minister Parvati Parida noted that the ‘Subhadra’ scheme has improved the lives of over one crore women in the state, promoting gender equality and empowering Odisha. The scheme focuses on digital and financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and leadership skills for women.

The Minister of Schools and Mass Education, Nityanand Gond, highlighted Subhadra as the state’s largest women-centric scheme, successfully mainstreaming marginalized and tribal women. Development Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary Anu Garg emphasized the inclusion of all women in development programs, citing Subhadra as a symbol of women empowerment.

Prominent guests, including Additional Secretary to the Chief Minister Nikunj Bihari Dhal, Director of Women and Child Development Department Manisha Banerjee, and Director of Mission Shakti Department Monica Priyadarshini, participated in the discussion. The occasion also featured two seminars: ‘Credit Access for Women Entrepreneurs’ and ‘Market Connectivity for Women Entrepreneurs,’ moderated by Principal Secretary, Women and Child Development, Shubha Sharma.
