Bhubaneswar: The regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here predicted that low pressure is likely to form over the northwest Bay of Bengal adjoining the north Odisha and West Bengal coast on Tuesday resulting in increased rainfall activity in the region.
The weather office has issued a yellow warning for rain and thunderstorms in Ganjam, Nuapada, Bolangir, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Balasore, Malkkangiri, Korapur, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, and Keonjhar districts today.
While the IMD has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of Odisha from Wednesday, it has forecast that the amount and extent of rain will increase from today. The monsoon low-pressure line extends from the West Bengal coast to the northwest Bay of Bengal. As a result, rain may occur in north, south, and interior Odisha today.
A yellow alert has been issued for 20 districts in Odisha, while the IMD has warned about thunder and lightning in 18 districts.
In the next two days, there will be light to moderate rains across the state. Mainly, the amount of rainfall will be high in south Odisha. Some districts of north coastal and South Odisha will experience lightning and thundershowers.
On the other hand, 168.1 mm of rain has been recorded in the state between June 1 and July 3, which is 29% less than the normal rainfall. Several districts of south interior Odisha received light to moderate rain today.
