Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar regional office of India Meteorological (IMD) on Thursday issued a heat wave warning for Odisha during the March-May period. According to the MeT office, the maximum temperature (day temperature) is likely to increase by 3°C to 5°C across the state during this period.

The IMD has forecast that while the day temperatures between March and May are likely to remain higher than normal, most places in Odisha will experience a harsh summer with temperatures likely to be significantly higher by at least 50 per cent.

The day temperatures in Angul, Sonepur, Boudh, Titilagarh, Balangir, Sambalpur, Talcher, Chandbali, Malkangari and the capital city of Bhubaneswar may touch 38°C to 42°C. The IMD has issued orange and red alerts for different districts during the summer months.

Odihsa has been deprived of rain for a long time and there is no possibility of rain in March, the IMD forecast on Thursday. As a result, the summer will be more intolerable.

The IMD further said that the day temperatures in various parts of the state will increase with the formation of a depression in the Bay of Bengal southerly winds from the Bay of Bengal.
