Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a severe weather warning for Odisha, predicting a combination of heat waves and hot, humid conditions across several districts from April 24 to April 26, 2025.
According to the IMD’s midday weather bulletin, the state will also experience warm nights, along with the possibility of thunderstorms and lightning in some regions.
The IMD has issued an orange warning for severe heat wave conditions in Jharsuguda district. In addition, the following districts are likely to experience heat wave conditions: Boudh, Bolangir, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, and Sonepur. The warning also includes the possibility of warm night conditions in the districts of Sambalpur, Sundargarh, and Bolangir on April 24.
A yellow warning has been issued for heat wave conditions in one or two places across the districts of Nuapada, Bargarh, Kalahandi, Deogarh, and Angul. Furthermore, hot and humid conditions are expected in isolated places across the following districts: Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, and Dhenkanal.
On April 25, the IMD has issued another yellow warning for heat wave conditions likely to prevail in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Bolangir, Boudh, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Angul, and Deogarh. Hot and humid conditions are expected to continue in areas including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, and Dhenkanal.
On April 26, similar heat wave conditions are expected in Bargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Bolangir, Kalahandi, and Jharsuguda. Hot and humid weather is forecast to persist in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
In addition to the heat warnings, the IMD has predicted thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30-40 km/h) on April 27.
These conditions are likely to affect the afternoon and evening hours in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri.
