Retd VLW Sentenced To Three Years RI For Misappropriating Govt Funds

Bhubaneswar: A former Village Level Worker (VLW) cum Executive Officer of Erabanga Gram Panchayat in Puri district has been convicted and sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment for misappropriating government funds.

A special vigilance court held Naba Kishore Nayak guilty of embezzling money meant for a cement concrete road project under the Gop Block. He retired from service.

The Odisha Vigilance had charge-sheeted Nayak under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Indian Penal Code. The Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar, convicted him and imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 in addition to the prison sentence.

Following the conviction, the Odisha Vigilance will initiate proceedings to stop Nayak’s pension.
