Sonpur: In an inspiring story of perseverance and determination, a shepherd’s son from Subarnapur district has overcome severe financial hardship to qualify the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), proving that dedication can triumph over adversity.
Sachin Behera, a resident of Kandagaon village under Dunguripali block, secured an impressive 560 out of 720 marks in this year’s NEET examination, earning eligibility for admission to a medical college. His achievement has brought pride not only to his family but also to the entire district.
What makes Sachin’s success remarkable is that he prepared for the highly competitive examination without attending any coaching institute. Relying primarily on online study materials accessed through a mobile phone, he devoted 14 to 16 hours every day to self-study, determined to fulfil his childhood dream of becoming a doctor.
Sachin’s father, Megha Behera, who is physically disabled, has supported the family by rearing sheep despite limited means. His mother, Pankajini Behera, stood firmly beside him throughout his academic journey. Growing up in a modest thatched house, Sachin faced financial constraints at every step, but he refused to allow poverty to dictate his future.
A meritorious student since his school days, Sachin had earned several accolades for his academic performance. He credited his success to the unwavering encouragement of his parents, sister and other family members, whose support kept him motivated during the long months of preparation.
Driven by a desire to serve people from economically weaker sections, Sachin said his dream has always been to become a doctor and help those who struggle to access quality healthcare. His NEET success marks the first major step towards achieving that goal.
The achievement has sparked celebrations in Kandagaon village, where neighbours, relatives and well-wishers have congratulated the young aspirant. His story has emerged as a powerful reminder that hard work, resilience and determination can overcome even the toughest circumstances.
However, the family’s biggest challenge now lies ahead. With their limited income from sheep rearing, arranging funds for Sachin’s medical education remains a daunting task. His family and villagers have appealed to the government and the district administration to extend financial assistance so that his dream of wearing a doctor’s coat is not hindered by economic hardship.
Sachin’s journey from a humble rural household to qualifying one of the country’s toughest entrance examinations stands as a testament to the belief that perseverance and determination can transform dreams into reality, regardless of one’s circumstances.
