Bhubaneswar: Large parts of Odisha continued to reel under intense heat on Tuesday evening, with several western and interior districts recording temperatures above 40°C, according to the latest bulletin issued at 7:00 PM by the India Meteorological Department’s Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre.

Jharsuguda emerged as the hottest place in the state at a scorching 45.3°C, followed closely by Boudh at 43.7°C, Sambalpur at 43.5°C, Sundargarh at 41.5°C, Sonepur at 41.9°C, and Bolangir at 42.0°C. Hirakud and Talcher also reported high temperatures of 43.4°C and 42.0°C, respectively, underscoring the severity of the heatwave conditions in western Odisha.

In contrast, coastal districts experienced relatively lower temperatures. Cuttack recorded 34.6°C, while Bhubaneswar stood at 34.5°C. Puri registered 33.2°C, benefiting from maritime influence. Gopalpur was among the coolest at 31.4°C, though it reported high relative humidity levels touching 100% in the evening.

Among northern districts, Balasore and Chandbali recorded 37.0°C and 37.6°C, respectively, while Baripada reported 37.8°C. Keonjhargarh remained hot at 39.7°C, indicating that heat conditions were not confined to western regions alone.

Humidity levels varied widely across the state. Coastal and southern pockets such as Gopalpur, Chatrapur, and Paradip reported high humidity levels above 80%, leading to uncomfortable weather conditions despite comparatively lower temperatures. On the other hand, Jharsuguda recorded a sharp drop in humidity to 21% by evening, intensifying dry heat conditions.

Rainfall activity remained minimal across most districts in the preceding 24 hours. However, localized precipitation was recorded in Rourkela (5.4 mm), Nayagarh (7.0 mm), Baripada (2.4 mm), and Jharsuguda (0.6 mm). Gopalpur reported significant rainfall of 18.0 mm since morning, while Bhubaneswar recorded only a trace.

The data indicates a continuing dominance of heatwave conditions over interior and western Odisha, while coastal areas remain comparatively moderate but humid. Weather officials have cautioned that such conditions may persist, with isolated thunderstorm activity offering limited relief in some pockets.
