Nuapada: Jonk police have busted an online IPL cricket betting racket and have arrested five persons in this connection.
The accused persons hail from the neighbouring state of Chhattisgarh. They had taken a house on rent in Khariar Road town and were operating the betting racket from there.
According to the police, during night patrolling on the intervening night of 11 & 12 April, a team of the Jonk police station raided a house behind Ram Mandir in Khariar Road town leading to the busting of an online IPL cricket betting racket.
During the raid, police apprehended five persons belonging to Raipur, Bematara and Raj Nandgaon districts of neighbouring Chhattisgarh.
Police seized 21 mobile phones, 4 laptops, 15 ATM cards of different banks, 10 cheque books of different banks, 5 passbooks of different banks, one note having handwritten details of accounting, one Aadhar Card, one Driving Licence, etc during the raid.
“There are two websites Tiger Exchange and ledger247.com. Any person visiting these websites will get whatsapp numbers. They have to message these numbers that they are interested to take part in IPL betting. Then the website will ask for depositing money. After depositing the money the visitor will be able to create an ID card. By using the ID card the user has to create a password and by entering the password one can take part in the betting,” said Nuapada SP Gundala Reddy Raghavendra, explaining on the modus operandi at a presser held at Jonk police station today.
