Bhubaneswar: A youth was arrested for allegedly killing his parents following a family dispute at Tertang village under the Balikuda police limits in Jagatsinghpur district on Sunday.
According to reports, an argument broke out between the accused and his parents at their residence on Sunday. The altercation allegedly escalated, following which the youth attacked his father and mother with a sharp-edged weapon.
Both victims sustained grievous injuries and died on the spot. The incident sent shockwaves through the village, with residents expressing disbelief over the brutal double murder.
Upon receiving information, a team from Balikuda police station rushed to the spot and launched an investigation. The bodies were recovered and sent for post-mortem examination.
Police detained the accused shortly after the incident and later arrested him in connection with the double murder. Preliminary investigation suggests that a family dispute may have triggered the attack. However, police are probing the exact circumstances that led to the crime.
A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
