Bhubaneswar: Senior BJP leader Jayaram Pangi officially quit the party on Friday. Pangi made the announcement of quitting the saffron party at a function on the occasion of Utkal Divas in Kotia.
Last year in October, Pangi had announced his decision to quit BJP. Back then, he had started an endeavour to get Union Territory status for undivided Koraput. The former MP said that he wanted to focus on his demand for UT status for undivided Koraput district and parts of Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
Pangi formed the Dandakarnya Parbatmal Bikash Parisad (DPBP) consisting of representatives from Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur and Rayagada districts. He was elected as president and former Koraput Collector Gadadhar Parida as secretary of the organisation.
According to Pangi, the Government programmes and schemes were not sufficient and nor executed properly for the upliftment of tribal people. Earlier, Pangi had resigned from BJD and joined the BJP in May 2017.
