Jeweller Shot At By Armed Robbers In Sambalpur

Sambalpur: A jeweller was on Friday afternoon shot at by armed robbers at his jewellery shop-New Payal Jewellers at Gobindatulla on the outskirts of Sambalpur town.

The injured jeweller identified as Sujit Swarnakar has been admitted to VIMSAR at Burla. His health condition is stated to be stable.

Dhanupalli police have launched an investigation into the incident.

On being informed, Addl SP Sambalpur Ajay Kumar Mishra, Sadar SDPO and other police officials rushed to the spot.

“Six robbers posing as customers entered the jewellery shop and asked for a gold chain. While the owner of the jewellery shop  Sujit Swarnakar was showing them a chain, one of the robbers pulled out a pistol and shot at him. The bullet hit Swarnakar on the left side of his belly. He has been shifted to VIMSAR,” informed Addl SP Sambalpur Ajay Kumar Mishra.

During the commotion following the firing, the robbers managed to flee the spot in the vehicle they had come.
