Bhubaneswar: Odisha is experiencing a severe cold wave, with several places recording night temperatures below 10°C. Jharsuguda has recorded a minimum temperature of 5°C, breaking a 73-year-old record.
Other places have also reported low temperatures, including Rourkela (4.6°C), Phulbani (6.1°C), Keonjhar (7.6°C), and Sundargarh (7.6°C), Angul (8.4°C), Baripada (8.6°C) and Dhenkanal (8.7°C).
Daringbadi has dropped to 9°C, while Koraput sizzled at 9.5°C, Bhawanipatna at 9.8°C and Cuttack at 10°C.
On the other hand, Jharsuguda has recorded its lowest temperature this season at 5°C, breaking a 73-year-old record. This is the fifth time this year that Jharsuguda has broken its own record, with temperatures dipping to 4.5°C on January 10, 4.6°C on January 9, 5.1°C on January 6, 5.4°C on January 7, and now 5°C on January 16.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has attributed the cold wave to dry and cold northerly winds blowing towards Odisha.
