Jharsuguda: The Jharsuguda Cyber Crime and Economic Offences Police have recovered Rs 7.02 lakh in a case of online fraud involving a Belpahad-based company that was cheated in the name of supplying Technical Grade Urea, police said on Monday.
According to police, the complainant came across an advertisement on the TradeIndia portal and contacted the alleged supplier for the procurement of urea. The accused reportedly gained the victim’s trust by sharing a GSTIN and a fake e-way bill, presenting the transaction as genuine.
Police said the victim, Monika Gupta (34), wife of Sailesh Shaw and a resident of Lamtibahal Ward No. 11 under the Brajrajnagar police limits, lodged a complaint at the Cyber Crime and Economic Offences Police Station, Jharsuguda. In her complaint, she stated that she was cheated of Rs 7,02,000 by the proprietor of ‘Shree Shyam Chemical Industries’, who had promised to supply Technical Grade Urea.
The complainant further alleged that the accused neither delivered the material nor refunded the money. The fraudster also used a fake GSTIN/UIN and sent forged documents, including an e-way bill. The vehicle details provided were also found to be invalid, with no insurance, registration certificate (RC), fitness certificate, or FASTag.
Police said the victim initially transferred Rs 5,000 as advance, followed by Rs 6,97,000 in subsequent transactions on June 12, taking the total amount to Rs 7,02,000. After the promised consignment was not delivered, she approached the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) by calling 1930 and lodged a complaint.
Addressing the media, Jharsuguda SP Gundala Reddy Raghavendra stated that the complaint was received on June 28, 2026, following which cyber police immediately initiated action. The team coordinated with concerned banks and managed to place the entire fraudulent amount on hold, resulting in full recovery of the defrauded money.
The SP said further investigation is underway to trace and identify the accused involved in the case.
He also urged the public to verify GST details and the authenticity of online suppliers before making payments. He advised citizens to promptly report cyber fraud through the national helpline 1930 for quick action and possible recovery of funds.
