Bhubaneswar: Several parts of Odisha continued to experience severe heat on Tuesday, with temperatures soaring close to 40°C at several places in Odisha as of 11:30 am, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
At 11:30 am May 26, the weather conditions across major locations were as follows:
- Jharsuguda: 39°C (Temperature), 46% Humidity, 49°C Heat Index
- Sambalpur: 39°C (Temperature), 46% Humidity, 49°C Heat Index
- Bhubaneswar: 36.2°C (Temperature), 62% Humidity, 50°C Heat Index
- Hirakud: 36°C (Temperature), 52% Humidity, 44°C Heat Index
Although Bhubaneswar recorded a relatively lower temperature of 36.2°C, high humidity pushed the feels-like temperature (Heat Index) to a scorching 50°C, making it the most uncomfortable among the four locations.
Western Odisha districts like Jharsuguda and Sambalpur remained the hottest in terms of actual temperature at 39°C, with a heat index of 49°C.The high heat index values indicate that people are likely to feel extreme discomfort and heat stress even though the actual air temperature is slightly lower.
This intense heat spell is expected to continue in the coming days across many parts of the state.
