Bhubaneswar: Several parts of Odisha recorded high daytime temperatures on Thursday, with western districts bearing the brunt of the heat, even as coastal regions remained relatively moderate due to higher humidity levels, according to the India Meteorological Department.
Data released at 2:30 PM (1430 IST) by the IMD Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre showed that Jharsuguda emerged as the hottest place in the state at 38.4°C, closely followed by Sambalpur at 38.0°C. Hirakud also recorded a high of 37.0°C, indicating persistent heatwave-like conditions across western Odisha.
Among other regions, Rourkela registered 36.4°C, while the state capital Bhubaneswar recorded 35.6°C with moderate humidity at 49%.
In contrast, coastal areas reported comparatively lower temperatures but significantly higher humidity levels. Puri recorded 32.2°C with the highest humidity of 75%, followed by Paradip (31.6°C, 72%) and Gopalpur (31.6°C, 71%). Chandbali and Balasore recorded 32.6°C and 30.2°C, respectively, both with 68% humidity.
Keonjhar registered 33.4°C with 50% humidity, indicating a mix of heat and moisture in the northern interior region.
The data highlights a clear divide between western and coastal Odisha, with inland districts experiencing higher temperatures and relatively drier conditions, while coastal belts face discomfort due to elevated humidity despite slightly lower temperatures.
