Paradip: A two-day joint security drill ‘Sagar Kavach-2’ began today off the Paradip coast in Jagatsinghpur district
This comprehensive operation involved the coordination of 18 security agencies and various related departments from both the State and the Central governments. The exercise was executed along the Paradip coast and within the port town itself.
Participants in the exercise were grouped into red and blue teams. The red team’s objective was to simulate infiltration scenarios, while the blue team worked diligently to thwart these efforts and neutralize any potential infiltration threats.
Multiple locations were chosen for the exercise, including the fishing jetty, River Mahanadi mouth, nearby slums, the port gate, administrative building, radar station, lighthouse, film hall, bus stand, and factory gates.
A wide array of agencies came together for this operation, including the Indian Navy, Coast Guard, Marine Police, Forest Department, Fisheries Department, Odisha Police, Central Industrial Security Force, and Intelligence Department.
This two-day exercise is set to span the 482-kilometer-long coastline of Odisha and West Bengal. It is conducted every six months since the tragic 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attack, which prompted a significant bolstering of coastal security measures. This ongoing effort is crucial in preventing potential infiltration via sea routes, particularly in response to threats from Pakistan-based terrorists.
