Malkangiri: A powerful Kalbaisakhi storm caused widespread damage across Malkangiri district on Thursday evening, uprooting trees, damaging houses and disrupting normal life in several areas.
According to reports, the intense storm lasted for nearly half an hour but left a trail of destruction in its wake. Strong winds uprooted trees at multiple locations across the district, while roofs of several houses were blown away due to the severe weather conditions.
Electric poles were also damaged in different parts of the district, raising concerns over disruption in power supply.
In the SDO Colony area, a large tree collapsed onto a government residential quarters, completely damaging the house. However, no casualty has been reported so far.
At Subash Bose Chowk, another massive tree fell on the road leading to the Sub-District Magistrate’s office, causing traffic obstruction and inconvenience to commuters.
Local authorities and emergency teams were engaged in clearing roads and assessing the extent of damage caused by the storm.
