Bhubaneswar: The much-awaited renovation of Kalinga Studios is likely to be completed and made operational by January next year, giving a major boost to Odia cinema. Preparations are underway in full swing, with officials hopeful that construction will progress on schedule.
A seven-member committee of MLAs on Wednesday visited the studio site to review the ongoing work. The team, led by Dushmanta Kumar Swain, included legislators Chhabi Mallick, Arvind Mahapatra, Laxman Bag, Pratap Chandra Pradhan, Rupesh Kumar Panigrahi, and Satyajit Gamang.
“Under the aegis of the Odisha Film Development Corporation (OFDC), we inspected the studio. Odia filmmakers often have to travel to Chennai, Mumbai, and Hyderabad for production work. Keeping this in mind, the state government is constructing a world-class studio here. About 40% of the work has already been completed, and we expect the remaining work to finish within two months so that the facility can become fully operational by January,” said Committee Chairman Dushmanta Kumar Swain.
Swain added that the government is determined to provide state-of-the-art infrastructure for the film industry and create opportunities for local filmmakers.
Earlier, on June 1, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, accompanied by Culture Minister Suryabanshi Suraj, had visited Kalinga Studio and announced plans for a special Detailed Project Report (DPR) to further strengthen the facility.
