Kandhamal Court Awards 10-Year Jail For Sexual Harassment Of Minor

Phulbani: A court in Kandhamal district on Friday sentenced a 19-year-old man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually harassing a 14-year-old girl in 2025.

The Adhoc Additional District & Sessions Judge, Fast Track Special Court, Phulbani, convicted the accused and pronounced the sentence.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on the convict. Failure to pay the fine will lead to an additional one year of rigorous imprisonment, Kandhamal SP Harisha B C said.

The court further directed payment of Rs 2 lakh as compensation to the victim.

Police said the offence was committed on July 23 last year in Phulbani. The accused was arrested on August 5, 2025.
