Bhubaneswar: Actor-turned-politician and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut participated in the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign in Bhubaneswar on Friday by planting a sapling to mark World Environment Day.
Speaking to mediapersons after the plantation drive, Kangana expressed happiness over being part of the initiative. “On World Environment Day, under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, I have planted a sapling in Bhubaneswar,” she said.
Kangana arrived in the Odisha capital earlier in the day for the premiere of her latest film, Bharat Bhagya Vidhata. During her visit, she also met Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and is scheduled to watch the premiere of the film with him later in the evening.
Speaking about the occasion, the BJP MP said the film’s team was excited that the Chief Minister had taken time to watch the movie. “Today, the Chief Minister has given us time to watch our film. We are very excited. We want to understand the true values of ‘Bharat Bhagya Vidhata’,” she said.
At the film’s trailer launch, Kangana had explained that the title was inspired by a phrase used by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to honour workers. According to her, the Prime Minister had coined several people-centric terms over the years, including ‘Divyangjan’ for specially-abled persons and ‘Vishwakarma’ for artisans. She said the term ‘Bharat Bhagya Vidhata’ for labourers deeply resonated with the filmmakers and inspired the title of the movie.
In Bharat Bhagya Vidhata, Kangana portrays a staff nurse whose dedication and service often go unnoticed. The film is based on real events at Mumbai’s Cama Hospital during the 26/11 terror attacks and focuses on the courage, sacrifice and humanitarian service displayed by a nurse during the crisis.
The trailer of the film was released recently and has drawn attention for highlighting an untold chapter from the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. Several films and web series have previously depicted the tragedy, including The Attacks of 26/11 and Mumbai Diaries, but Bharat Bhagya Vidhata seeks to spotlight the role of healthcare workers during one of the country’s darkest moments.
Kangana’s visit combined both environmental outreach and film promotion, with the actor-politician participating in the nationwide tree plantation campaign before attending the film’s premiere in the state capital.
