Bhubaneswar: Four persons who had kidnapped the son of a businessman from Laxmisagar area in Bhubaneswar were nabbed within 36 hours after a chase of around 700 kilometres across three districts, informed Commissioner Soumendra Priyadarshi on Wednesday.
The accused have been identified as Ramkrishna of Berhampur, Santosh Rout of Sambalpur, Dhaneswar Patra of Nayagarh, and Mustaq Ali of Khandagiri.
As per a complaint registered by the businessman at Laxmisagar Police Station on January 31, his son Ishan Agrawal had been kidnapped and the abductors had demanded a ransom of Rs 30 lakh.
Based on the complaint, the Commissionerate Police in Bhubaneswar UPD jumped into action and four teams were formed under the supervision of Special Squad ACP Sanjeev Satpathy to probe into the case.
During the course of the investigation, it was found that the abductors had been on the move after the kidnapping. They had travelled for around 800 kilometres covering Khordha, Puri, and Nayagarh and called Ishan’s father during irregular intervals from different places.
Tracing the calls, a vehicle of Commissionerate Police also chased the abductors for around 700 kilometres and was finally able to nab them. A Swift car and two knives were also seized from their possession.
During interrogation, it was found that they had performed a similar crime in Berhampur in January this year. Berhampur Police has been intimated and further investigation is underway. The Commissionerate Police will also seek remand of the accused persons for further interrogation, said Priyadarshi.
