Dhenkanal: The Kamakhyanagar Police have arrested Rakesh Nath, the alleged kingpin of the ‘King of Forest’ gang and a notorious criminal accused in multiple serious offences, including the high-profile murder of BJD leader Jashobant Parida.
According to police sources, Nath, accompanied by four associates, had allegedly entered a house in Khuntapashi village under Kamakhyanagar police limits and opened fire, discharging five rounds. No injuries were reported in the incident.
Acting on a tip-off, police rushed to the spot. While Nath’s accomplices managed to escape, he attempted to flee by jumping from the roof of the house upon seeing the police team. He sustained serious injuries in the fall and was subsequently apprehended.
The injured accused was rescued by police and admitted to the Dhenkanal District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.
Police said Nath had been terrorising locals by barging into houses, firing bullets, and hurling crude bombs. The latest incident reportedly targeted the residence of Subash Khuntia, a former associate of Nath in the same gang.
Efforts are underway to trace and arrest the four absconding accomplices, police added.
