Bhubaneswar: A landslide scare has gripped Dhepaguda village under Raikia block along the Ganjam-Kandhamal border after a portion of a concrete road suddenly caved in following incessant rainfall, leaving residents worried about the safety of their homes and families.
The incident took place on August 6 when some children were playing near the road. They had a narrow escape after a portion of the road suddenly gave way, creating a large crater at the spot.
According to residents, the collapsed portion has resulted in a crater measuring around 20 feet in diameter and nearly 5 feet deep. The sudden cave-in has raised fears of further land subsidence and possible landslides in the area as rainfall continues.
The incident has triggered panic among villagers, many of whom are now apprehensive about the safety of their homes located in the vicinity of the affected road.
“We are no longer in a position to stay here safely. We have been staying awake throughout the night to protect our lives. We are facing a serious threat to our lives at this place,” a villager said.
Residents said the situation has become particularly worrying due to the continuing rainfall, which could further weaken the ground and increase the risk of another collapse.
The villagers have urged the authorities to assess the affected area and take immediate measures to ensure their safety.
