Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area is likely to form over the southeast Bay of Bengal around November 23 and it is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over central parts of the south Bay of Bengal during the subsequent two days.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday that various weather models are now indicating the formation of a low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal on November 23. “However, there is a large variation among various models concerning the intensification of the system. GFS group of models are indicating the formation of depression/deep depression around November 24 over the southeast Bay of Bengal. NCUM is indicating the formation of depression around November 26 off Sri Lanka coast and ECMWF is not indicating any significant intensification of this system (only up to low-pressure area stage),” the IMD said in its mid-day bulletin.
Under the influence of the low-pressure area, light to moderate rain/thundershower may occur at one or two places in Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur and Puri districts on November 27 and Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Koraput and Malkangiri on November 28. While there will be no large change in the night temperature across the state during the next four days, it will rise by 2°C-3°C during the subsequent day.
